When talented people come together to share ideas and skills, great things happen. Our members notice what is working and what isn’t. Our leadership is always asking, “What can we do to improve the BNI experience”?


BNI by the Bay’s 5-week mentoring program, developed over a period of several years by our chapter, is a great example of improving on a good thing. Ever enter a lively room where everyone is engaged in animated conversations in groups of twos, threes and fours? You don’t quite know where you fit in or what the protocol is. It’s sort of like starting a new job, where everyone else knows one other. The mentoring program is similar to a new employee orientation.

In addition to our 5-week orientation, new members are encouraged to join our Mentoring Coordinators on a monthly basis to benefit from our featured topic of the month.

What is a Contact Sphere?

A Contact Sphere is a group of professionals who complement rather than compete with each other. Contact Spheres tend to pass the most business within the group. Often within your Contact Sphere you can develop a working relationship with a Power Partner, an individual with whom you refer a majority of business back and forth.

In weekly meetings, in one to one’s, and in Contact Sphere meetings, we all share our stories, our services, our products and ideas. Each of us also takes the time to listen. We work hard at learning how best to highlight each other’s talents. In the process, we learn to do a pretty fine job of highlighting our own, too. How else could we expect to step into the role of serving on each other’s sales teams? This is what an effective referral network does.

We focus on quality throughout our business systems. Our potential members are asked to participate in a three-phase interview process before being inducted. You will speak personally with those members who are most likely to refer business to you and to be referred by you. This extra measure helps us ensure that we recruit members that feel our chapter is a good fit.

In short, our chapter is made up of a dedicated group of professionals who follow the BNI program. We are interested in members who care about other people, especially those who demonstrate integrity and know how to have fun.
